Touchstones Creative Writing Group (known locally as TCWG) is a fully constituted revenue funded organisation, although this funding is currently ring-fenced for facilitation costs.
TCWG includes several published and/or broadcast writers, but is open to writers of all abilities. Meeting monthly at Touchstones Arts & Heritage Centre for facilitated workshops, the group boasts an ever-increasing membership and enjoys a wide demographic.
TCWG published its first print anthology in 2013, after attracting two prestigious commissions the previous year. A Diamond Co-operative was published after the writers were commissioned by Rochdale Co-operative Members' Group to produce original text celebrating Rochdale's year as International Capital of Co-operation in 2012. Coincidentally, TCWG were also commissioned by Forever Manchester to produce poetry celebrating the Diamond Jubilee year of Her Majesty, the Queen. These commissions were combined into one collective.
Touchstones Creative Writing Group, one of the few professionally facilitated writing groups in the Borough, is a member of NAWG, and of Rochdale Arts Forum. TCWG are involved in delivering several partnership projects, initially in Rochdale's first Literature And Ideas Festival in October 2013, and also 2014 and 2015 in their Fringe Festival.
TCWG also now has a performing arm to its credit, TCWG Pulling Threads, and performed its WW1 production at various locations around the Borough during 2014—15, receiving exemplary reviews.
A new production is currently being written for 2016 to commemorate the Battle of the Somme and the Battle of Jutland later in the year. And Pulling Threads will hopefully continue pulling threads of stories together until the knot of war unravels into a blanket of peace.
